Prompt:
"I'll give you three wishes."
"I don't want them."
Magdalene stared tiredly out the window and watched the clouds flow over the wings of the plane. The man next to her snored slowly, softly. She felt her eyelids sink before she shook herself awake again. Magdalene knew she couldn’t afford to fall asleep, because if she did dreams would await her. She didn’t want to have the dreams. They had been the same for the past two weeks. Her subconscious was nervous about what she was going to do. She didn’t want to but having not slept for over eighteen hours her body demanded she get her some sleep.
Magdalene did not realize she had succumbed to sleep until she woke up. She blinked her eyes tiredly trying to bring her surroundings into focus. She briefly wondered where she was then remembered she had been on a plane. She stretched glade she no had had no dreams. As she stretched she felt her hand scrape something hard and rough. Magdalene’s face scrunched up as she felt the odd texture. It felt like stone but she knew there was no stone on the airplane. She opened her eyes and looked around the dim lighting. Then she screamed.
Magdalene’s scream echoed back at her. All around her was sand stone. She looked around for the other people on the plan but saw no one. The only thing she could hear was her heart pounding in her ears, her rapid breathing, and the continuous echo of her scream. She pulled her knees into her chest and wrapped her arms around them as tightly as she could. She tried to calm herself down. There had to be a logical explanation. She knew that but her mind could not find any.
Hours passed but nothing in the dim changed except that Magdalene’s breath became slowed while her heartbeat returned to normal. Magdalene decided that something had to be done so she shifted her body till she was on her hands and knees. She turned her head to her left then right then slowly turned crawled into a small circle. When she had turned nearly halfway around she saw a lighter part of dim and decided that it must be the way out for light to be coming from it. She crawled slowly but as the light became brighter she crawled faster and faster.
Many hours passed and Magdalene’s knees and hands were hurting her as well as bleeding from sharp stone stab wounds. She felt exhausted and irritated. The light had gotten lighter and was nearly painfully bright now but still she felt like she had gotten nowhere. She was nearly ready to give up and sit back and cry when the tunnel suddenly widened into a perfectly round cavern. She stood up and looked around. The walls went up for nearly a hundred feet before they began to slant up into a perfect cone. The walls were perfectly smoothed. From the edge of the walls the floor gently slanted to a pool directly in the center.
Magdalene stared in awe at the beauty of the pool. The light seemed to emanate from it. The beauty was so great that she did not even have a chance to feel sorrow that there appeared to be no way out. She slowly walked down to the pool and stood on the edge looking down. Her reflection shimmered before her. Then the water rippled and was replaced by another image.
It was a pale faced man with bright red eyes. The face smiled up at her before it began to get bigger and then the man was stepping out of the pool. His smile was clam and disarming. Magdalene knew she should not but she found herself drawn to this strange man. Sparkling in his eyes were promises of infinite happiness. She could see herself doing anything that this man asked her to. He was tall and slim with toned muscles rippling from his the waist band of his pants. His loose pants swayed as he stepped towards her.
Magdalene breath hitched in her throat as the man’s smile widened. He moved his eyes up and down her body. She felt a shiver run through her body. This man could drive a woman insane with just a look. She felt herself falling into his spell bound eyes. She knew there was something important for her to remember but she could not. Not with this man stepping closer to her. She could feel his breath on her face. He reached out and gently touched her face. In that instant Magdalene forgot everything including her own name. He leaned in till their lips were barely millimeters apart. His breath brushed across her face making her weak in the knees with desire.
“I’ll give you three wishes,” the man said causing a shiver to once again rock Magdalene’s body. She knew what to wish for right away, this man to be with this man in every way possible. He was tall and handsome. Just before she could utter the words she remembered what she had been doing on an airplane. As that memory came flying back into her mind his suddenly eyes were not nearly as charming or enchanting. They were dark and evil to her.
“I don’t want them,” She said. She did not want anything from this man. She knew that now.
“You wan…wait…what?”
“I don’t want them,” She only wanted the man in the plane, “I don’t want anything to do with you.”
“What?”
“Good bye,” Magdalene said as she turned and ran from him.
“No wait! Magdalene wait! Magdalene wait wait wait wake…Magdalene wake up. Come on,
Baby, time to wake up.”
“Wha,” Magdalene’s eyes flew open and she stared into the smiling face of the man who snored beside her. His smile was gentle and calm and told her in no uncertain terms that he loved her.
“Calm on it’s time to get off the plane. We are here. You’ve got things you want to do and,” Magdalene lunged forward and wrapped her arms around his neck pulling him into a kiss which he gladly returned. She stood up and gently pushed him away when an irritated stewardess indicated she wanted them off the plane. As they collected their bags the man looked at her and smiled his smile again, “What would you like to do first, Baby?”
“Marry you,” She said wrapping her arms around him. His eyes widened as he stared at her then a smile split his face.
“Really,” He asked, “Are you sure.”
“Yes, never more sure,” Magdalene said knowing her previous objections were pointless and stupid. As he slipped the ring he had tried to give her before they left onto her finger. She knew this was what she was meant to do for all of eternity.
